Name’s Natasha.
It is hot. I wish I had worn shorts. I just woke up in the car with Mum driving us to the site of the dig she has been working on for the past few months. She’s an epigrapher. I find it very interesting, really. She draws and records whatever anybody finds on the site of the dig, a very important job. I am proud of her.
All term long I have been waiting for this break to finally come out and visit Mum. Alex, my little brother, and I were living with Dad. Mum and Dad had been divorced for a while. Living with Dad was nice but the trip to school each morning was so much longer, not to mention we had to put up with Eva, another one of his girlfriend’s that honestly looks like she could be my older sister.
Alex is currently sleeping in the backseat and I’m not going to lie when I say that the ride is awfully peaceful. He is a little loud and a break from him every once in a while is certainly nothing to complain about.
Alex and I are both happy because we get to be with Mum. Sure this site at Medinabad will not have a 5 star hotel with amazing meals and comfortable beds and air conditioning—wow, I am about to talk myself out of this—but at least Alex and I are with Mum. And for now, that is the best that we could possibly ask for.
Oi! Alex is awake. Better go.
